Category:Featured pictures of architecture[edit]

Same content as in Commons:Featured pictures/Places/Architecture. The latter is being kept up to date by the FPC Bot, this one is not. A.Savin 10:21, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  •  Oppose I doubt lack of categorising workforce is a valid reason for deletion. Would you rather ask for that bot to include this cat in its files? --Kozuch (talk) 16:13, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The reason for deletion is redundancy of contents, not "lack of categorizing". - A.Savin 18:09, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  •  Oppose (strongly). Also I seriously doubt that maintaining very huge gallery pages is worth the value. Categories are mush better suited for maintaining large quantities of contents, and they do not require any handling by a bot : edits can be incremental, and do not require lots of memory and long times to load them (because categories are automatically paged when needed). In my opinion, galeries should only display a small selection of the best contents, but should not be automatically handled by bots filling them (many visitors will have difficulties loading these giant pages). Bots will be MUCH better used for feeding the categories. So stop your unneeded bot that feeds galleries, use it for feeding categories instead. verdy_p (talk) 22:47, 23 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
oO you seem to confuse something very badly, the FPCBot is not *mine*... - A.Savin 22:57, 23 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
OK but this does not change my opinion about this unneeded (and probably undesired) bot that creates unusable giant pages. Categories, when they are well maintained, are much easier to navigate to look for contents. In my opinion, gallery pages should be reduced a lot and if a category has a gallery, this gallery should be used to present the various subjects covered in each subcategory, with just a sample. Its section headings should then point to the relevant subcategory page, after just present very few representative images for each sub topic. Galleries can also be a helper to halp navigating to some frequently used subcategories that are deeper than the 1st level of subcategories, or to sister categories (e.g. in maps to see a collection of related maps using some common styles, in an almost finished collection with just one coherent style, in their best versions and using a common naming scheme), or to help disambiguate related concepts: this will help people find the appropriate subcategory. Then each category may be paged as wanted automatically: categories are already galleries by themselves. verdy_p (talk) 23:08, 23 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
